We recently asked Supt. Dr. Robert Owens to give us his thoughts on Stewardship in the conference and the New Stewardship Starter Kit. Please check this blog often, as new questions will be posted on a regular basis.

A message from our superintendent:

Question: In your role as superintendent, briefly cast for us your vision for Biblical stewardship in the conference and the for the Stewardship Starter Kit as a resource.

Response:
Taking advantage of the resources developed by the The Stewardship Commission will assist our churches in helping people serve God with all they are and with all they have. It is my desire that these resources are used to encourage us as we participate in the shared ministry of the Southeast Conference and the Evangelical Covenant Church. The resources of the Commission are tools from which churches can choose based on their needs and their goals.

These are difficult economic times for all of us. Yet, we know that God is the owner of all things and we are his stewards. We must be faithful stewards of all that is His. Scripture is very clear, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.—Matthew 6:19, 21 NIV

The Stewardship Starter Kit is an excellent place to start for churches who want to establish a stewardship committee and it is also useful for congregations that have well established stewardship practices. I envision pastors and leaders that are encouraged to model whole-life stewardship and that generosity continues to increase in our conference. It is my desire that congregations will see lives changed as a result of year round emphasis on stewardship of not only money; but of time, talents, resources and the gifts God has so graciously given us."

Robert L.
